Internet Advertising

After much discussion and research, Camp has begun to advertise online. Don't worry-we're still the same Camp that brought you wannigans and bannock, but now we're utilizing a new tool, the Worldwide Web. Check out our posted advertisement on backdoorjobs.com. See if you can identify the staff member in the photo. Clue: He's pretty cool.
Wisconsin Leadership Institute at the Capitol
On Decembeer 3rd Mark Zanoni represented Camp Manito-wish and the Wisconsin Leadership Institute (WLI) in a meeting with incoming Wisconsin State Senator Jim Holperin. The focus of our meeting was to offer the services of WLI and Manito-wish as resources to assist in bringing organizations and individuals together to examine key public policy issues. We had a great meeting and we will keep everyone posted on things as they develop.
WLI was formed as part of the Thompson administration’s SAVE commission on government efficiency. It is currently housed at Ripon College and represents groups from across the non-profit, academic and public policy worlds. Our focus is on using the tools of collaborative leadership to improve communities and organizations. Anne Derber is the outgoing Secretary of WLI. Mark Zanoni is the current Vice President.

Paddling Photo
http://www.paddling.net/photography
Rick Monserud, former camper, staff and current paddler, is featured in the photo of the week at paddling.net. The photo was taken by seasonal staff member Paul Ward. Someone should tell him to avoid those holes if he wants to keep his boat dry.
Click on it this week before they change the picture.
Enjoy.

Wrap Presents at LL Bean - Help Support Camp
Are you in the Chigao area? Want to do some volunteering for Camp? If so, read on.From Dave Impey:
My part-time employer, L.L. Bean, offers non-profit organizations the chance to earn $500 by staffing a gift-wrapping table from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on certain days from Thanksgiving to Christmas. We have two Chicagoland opportunities in newly-opened stores in Skokie and South Barrington. In addition to earning a sizeable contribution for the Annual Fund Drive, it's a great PR opportunity!
The typical L.L. Bean shopper is a natural demographic for Manito-wish camper recruitment and we'll be allowed to post all sorts of Manito-wish materials. (And you'll be in an L.L. Bean store! Bring your Christmas list!) L.L. Bean recommends waves of 4-6 person teams to allow for interchangeable wrappers and spokespersons, so, ideally, I'd like to get commitments from at least 10 people for each store, dates to be determined very soon. They provide all the wrapping paper, ribbons, etc. We only need to do it one day, and weekend slots are filling up. Dec. 6th is already taken by another group for Skokie.
So, if you're a North Shore or Northwest Suburban friend of Manito-wish and would like to spend a day bragging about Camp to fellow outdoor enthusiasts while honing your wrapping skills, please contact me!
Contact us here at Camp if you're interested and we can get you Impey's contact info.
Seasonal Staff Retreat
January 2-4, 2009
You're invited to the seasonal staff retreat. We spend the weekend combating problems of the universe, or at least ideas we would like to incorporate into Camp. This is your chance to hang out at Camp in the winter, see friends, play in the snow, and share some ideas too.
Our big initiative for the weekend is to get your thoughts and ideas on what you would like to see incorporated into the new two-week and four-week schedule for Summer Camp of 2009. We've got some great ideas, but the more brains the better.
Housing and meals are available.
If you want more information, contact me, Drew, Jay, or Mark before December 19th.
